Clinical Supervision and Consultation

As a BCACC Approved Clinical Supervisor (RCC-ACS), I am excited to offer consultation and clinical supervision services to professional counsellors (RCC or CCC designation), particularly in the “early” phase of their careers.

My counselling experience spans over 12 years in the not-for-profit, primary/secondary education, post-secondary education, and private practice sectors, and I have been providing clinical supervision for 5 years. Although I consider myself a generalist as a counsellor, I have developed specializations in career counselling, suicide prevention/intervention, and most recently gaming and geek culture – I am a Certified Therapeutic Game Master in the Game to Grow method of Therapeutically-Applied Roleplaying Games. I have completed in-depth masters level coursework on the fundamentals of providing clinical supervision, and have been providing clinical supervision to masters level counselling practicum students since 2019. In 2024 I expanded my supervision practice and began offering supervision and consultation services privately.

My primary theoretical influences as a therapist include Emotion-Focused/Process-Experiential, Narrative, Person-Centered, DBT/CBT, and Existential/Humanistic Therapies. As a clinical supervisor, my biggest theoretical influences are Developmental and Constructivist: I will work with you to develop an open and honest relationship built on genuineness, honesty, and  trust. I will assume that your supervision needs will change over time and collaboratively work with you to adjust our use of supervision time to best facilitate your continued professional development. I will endeavor to understand your subjective experience, and help you understand and re-author the stories you tell yourself about your identity as a therapist.

I am currently offering single consultation sessions and monthly clinical supervision sessions. All supervision and consultation sessions are offered remotely.

What is the Difference Between Consultation and Clinical Supervision?

Clinical Supervision entails a more formal, ongoing relationship between us, including a supervision contract we negotiate and sign. Supervision is as much about helping you grow professionally as it is ensuring and safeguarding the welfare of your clients. As clinical supervisor I would therefore assume some degree of clinical responsibility for the cases you bring to supervision.

Prior to starting a supervisory relationship, we would schedule an Exploration Meeting, which is an initial meeting for us to chat about your supervision needs, what I can offer, and whether we are the right fit for one another. If we agree to move forward with a formal clinical supervision relationship, we then negotiate and sign a supervision contract.

Consultation is a broad term that describes a relationship between colleagues with generally equal power, in which I as a consultant may share guidance, knowledge, and/or strategies, but assume no responsibility or oversight for your actual work. There is no administrative, evaluative, or gatekeeping role in consultation. Due to its nature, consultation is typically offered on a one-off, as-needed basis. Below are some areas of specialty in which I am keen to offer consultation:

  • Geek and gaming culture
  • Healthy and problematic gaming
  • Therapeutically-Applied Tabletop Roleplaying Games
  • Suicide Prevention and Intervention
