• What am I doing with my life?
  • How can I feel more satisfied in my work?
  • What do I want out of my job?
  • Am I in the right career?
  • What’s the best way to search for a job?
  • How do I write a good resume and cover letter?

If you’ve recently asked yourself one or more of these questions, you are certainly not alone. Fortunately, these questions and countless other issues can be addressed with the help of career counselling.

How is Career Counselling Different?

Essentially, the only difference between “career counselling” and any other form of counselling is that the goals of our work somehow relate to your career. Otherwise, sessions look very similar! In fact, most career counselling happens throughout the course of regular counselling sessions, when career issues naturally come up in discussion (for example, social anxiety could be your main issue in counselling, but some problematic symptoms may be occurring at work).

Sometimes, a career concern is so central to your well-being that you may decide to seek help specifically around that issue. Whether contemplating a career change, applying for a job or promotion, struggling to balance work with other life roles, or simply feeling stuck, career counselling can help. I am happy to provide the following career counselling services:

Narrative Career Exploration. This is a course of counselling sessions, typically three to five sessions in length, focused on understanding your career and life stories to date, and how you can construct possibilities in your future that you are curious and excited about. In addition to exploration in therapy sessions, this process includes reflective activities you will be asked to complete between sessions.

Formal Career Assessments. I can administer and interpret the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Strong Interest Inventory, or both to provide useful data about your personality preferences, interests, leadership style, and more.

Job Search/Interview Assistance. Searching for work can be a daunting and anxiety-provoking experience requiring strategy and persistence. I can help you strategize (or re-strategize!) your work search, create effective resumes and cover letters, and put your best self forward in job interviews.
